Watch app for Degree Deodorant
Using a fitness watch app to reach deodorant consumers
At Galvanised Inc., a company founded by fitness experts from Men’s Health, I contributed to the development of an iOS fitness watch app for Degree Deodorant. The app aimed to elevate brand visibility and strengthen its connection with an active, health-conscious audience. Our objective was to create an engaging workout app that aligned with the brand’s identity, delivering real value to users and ultimately driving sales.

Working with a design lead and a fitness expert, we created a simplified workout program for Degree Deodorant users on Apple Watch. Also created was an accompanying iPhone app that allowed users to define fitness levels through tailored questions and a fitness test. Key features included daily challenges, daily motivational tips, and a way to track your progress.
Primary challenges and solutions:
We relied on internal user testing to get this moving fast. We consulted with fitness experts in our network to review and get feedback. We used the Unilever Degree team for quick feedback, and then went live with an MVP.
Rapid iteration needed.
Research time crunch.
By allowing users to log reps, track performance, and monitor progress over time, the app fosters a sense of achievement and supports long-term user retention and goal completion.
We quickly developed a dependent watch app paired with a phone app, learning the watch build kit on the fly to meet the deadline. The phone app handles onboarding and settings, while the watch app provides alerts, workouts, and syncs data back to the phone.
Progress Tracking:

Some key features included:
30-Day Fitness Challenge: Engage in a structured program to transform your fitness with daily exercises and progress tracking.
Personalized Profile Setup: Users can tailor their experience by setting their age, start date, daily notifications, and goals.
Fitness Test: Start your journey by gauging your fitness level with a timed push-up challenge.
Progress Tracking: View your completed workouts, current progress, and achievements throughout the 30 days.
Motivational Dashboard: A personalized profile displays your level, age range, goals, and workout stats to keep you on track.
Customizable Notifications: Set reminders to stay consistent with your workouts and goals.
Simple, Clean Design: Intuitive interface for easy navigation and focus on achieving your fitness goals.
The MVP watch app was designed to be simple yet scalable, providing a solid foundation for future growth and enhancement.
Here are some key features based on the uploaded watch screens:
Daily Fitness Challenges: The app delivers simple, time-based exercises like push-ups directly to your wrist, helping you stay consistent with your fitness routine.
Seamless Start: Begin your daily challenge effortlessly with a "Start" button, keeping the process intuitive and engaging.
Visual and Audio Feedback: Real-time timers and visual progress indicators guide you through each exercise session for a smoother workout experience.
Reps Recording: Record your performance after each exercise using the built-in voice feature, ensuring accurate tracking of your progress.
Instant Feedback: Get congratulatory messages and detailed stats, such as the number of reps completed, immediately after finishing your workout to stay motivated.
Data Sync to iPhone App: All recorded data, including exercise performance and progress, seamlessly syncs with the iPhone app, creating a centralized hub for tracking and analysis.
Motivational Messaging: The app encourages users with positive reinforcement and Degree's "Move More, Live More" branding, enhancing the fitness journey.
Compact and Efficient Design: The watch interface prioritizes simplicity and clarity, making it easy to stay focused during workouts.
I really had a blast working on this project. Because this was an advertising venture, the project didn’t continue past the initial project launch and its first iteration, but I had a lot of fun creating the app and launching it and I learned a lot.
However, some future features I would have liked to explore would have been: expanding the workout challenges, heart rate tracking, guided tutorials, gamified challenges, and advanced metrics like calorie burn and recovery insights. Integrating the watch with platforms like Apple Health could enhance data sync and tracking as well.
