Designing the Sotheby’s Art Auction App

Sotheby’s sought to create a cutting-edge app that provided art enthusiasts and collectors with an immersive, interactive experience.

The app showcased every auction piece with high-quality photos, videos, animations, 3D exploration, and detailed histories, including real-time pricing and notifications for sold items. It aimed to replicate the exclusivity and depth of an in-person auction in a digital format.

My Role: As part of a multidisciplinary team of digital designers, UX specialists, and developers, I helped craft the Sotheby’s Art Auction App, aligning design strategies with both business goals and user needs.

Methods: To elevate the user experience, we employed the following methods to create a secure, engaging, and intuitive platform:

  • UI Design: Created a seamless, intuitive interface for real-time bidding and immersive artwork exploration.

  • UX Strategy: Designed user flows that prioritized security, ease of use, and deep engagement with auction content.

  • Interactive Features: Implemented tools for note-taking during live auctions and dynamic, contextual storytelling for each piece.

  • Auction Tools: Provided real-time pricing, notifications for sold items, and a calendar of upcoming auctions for streamlined user navigation.
